Ritz Cookies

A Holiday Tradition

For two decades, our holiday season has been marked by the delightful ritual of creating Ritz Cookies. Better known among my family and friends as “chocolate dipping”. These little wonders, born from a simple combination of Ritz crackers, peanut butter, marshmallow cream, and a generous dip in velvety melted chocolate, have become a tradition among our family and friend gatherings.

As we embark on another holiday season, the anticipation of making Ritz Cookies with family and friends is as exciting as ever. The tradition that started with my husband and brother has become an inseparable part of our holiday celebrations. Here’s to two decades of joy, laughter, and the sweet allure of Ritz Cookies – a tradition we are eager to pass down for generations to come.

As the years have passed, the process of making Ritz Cookies has become more than just a “chocolate dipping”. It’s a time when laughter echoes throughout. Smiles are on every child from age 2-60. The kids eyes are as big as saucers at the children’s dipping station where chocolate covered fingers and faces make you smile, and the sweet aroma of melting chocolate fills the air. The men have the chore of melting the chocolate to just the right stage and taking to the tables lined up with eagerly awaiting dippers. The memories created during these moments linger long after the last cookie has been dipped.

coating chocolate – You can use chocolate coating discs or large bars of coating chocolate cut into small pieces. We always use the microwave to melt the chocolate but you can also use a double broiler.

Tip: I know it’s tempting to pile on the peanut butter and marshmallow cream, but too much and it will ooze out of the chocolate! A thin layer is all you need!

Spread the Love – Peanut Butter First

Take one Ritz cracker and lightly spread it with peanut butter. The nutty richness of the peanut butter provides a perfect counterbalance to the sweet marshmallow cream that follows.

The Sweet Center – Marshmallow Cream

Take another Ritz cracker and spread a thin layer of marshmallow cream. This gooey, cloud-like substance adds a touch of sweetness that elevates the entire experience.

Unite the Flavors of Ritz Cookies

Gently press the peanut butter-covered cracker onto the marshmallow cream-covered one, creating a delightful peanut butter-marshmallow sandwich. The union of flavors is nothing short of heavenly.

Dip and Coat in Chocolate

The grand finale involves dipping this delectable creation into a pool of melted chocolate. In a microwave safe dish place 2 cups of chocolate coating discs or wilbur coating chocolate cut into small pieces. Microwave at 100% power at 30 second intervals, stirring between each. Microwave until smooth and creamy. Do not overheat your chocolate it will sieze up. Using a fork dip the cookie into the chocolate and gently tap fork on side of dish. Letting any excess chocolate drip off. Gently place on parchment paper or waxed paper to set. This can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour depending on the temperature and humidity of your room.

What makes Ritz Cookies truly special is their versatility. They have become a staple on our holiday cookie trays, nestled among gingerbread men and sugar cookies. The mere sight of these chocolate-coated creates smiles and eager hands reaching for more.

Beyond their place on our family’s dessert table, Ritz Cookies have become a cherished gift for friends and neighbors. Each year, we assemble cookie boxes filled with these delights, sharing not just a treat but a piece of our holiday tradition.

They are not just cookies; they are a testament to the joy of tradition, shared moments, and the simple pleasures of the holiday season.
