Ingredients for Easy Homemade Amish White Bread
Warm water (100-110 degrees Fahrenheit)
Sugar (white sugar is recommended, but honey can also be used)
Flour (bread flour is recommended, but all-purpose flour can be used, keeping in mind that the texture may be denser)
Salt
Oil (olive, avocado, or canola oil)
Step By Step Instructions
Using a stand mixer with the dough hook attachment or knead the dough by hand.
Begin by combining the warm water, yeast, and sugar in the bowl of your stand mixer. Allow it to sit for about 10 minutes or until it starts to bubble.
Add the flour, salt, and oil of your choice. Mix on low speed until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
Knead on medium speed for 5 minutes or until the dough is smooth.
Remove the dough from the bowl, roll it into a ball, and place it into a lightly oiled bowl.
Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it sit in a warm place for 1-1 1/2 hours or until it has doubled in size. The rising time will depend on the temperature and humidity of your home.
When the dough has doubled, remove it from the bowl, punch it down, spread it into a large rectangle, and cut it in half.
Roll each half into a log, tucking under the ends, and place each into a greased 9 x 5 bread pan.
Cover with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm spot for about 30 minutes or until the bread has risen about an inch above the pan.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees while bread is in its final rise. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and brush butter on top of each loaf. Remove from pan to a wire cooling rack.
