Ingredients

For The Topping

  • 6 apples about 6 cups, peeled and sliced
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tsp lemon juice

For The Filling

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 13x9-inch baking dish. Peel, core, and slice your apples. You’ll need about 6 cups, depending on the size of the apples.
Place the prepared apples into the prepared baking dish. In a small bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, ½ teaspoon of nutmeg, and 2 teaspoons of lemon juice. Pour the mixture over the apples and toss until they are evenly coated. Set aside.
  • In a medium-sized bowl, combine 1 cup of brown sugar, ¾ cup of old-fashioned oats, ¾ cup of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, ½ teaspoon of nutmeg, and ½ teaspoon of salt. Stir until the ingredients are well blended. Add the cold, cubed butter to the mixture. Using a pastry cutter, two forks, or even your fingers, mix the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Evenly sprinkle the oat topping over the apples, covering the entire surface. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. You’ll know it’s ready when the apple juices start bubbling up around the edges.
  • Remove from oven and let sit 10 - 15 minutes before serving.
