This is great for those busy mornings to grab a bag and eat on the go! I love using this to make granola yogurt bowls in jars. Just make a layer of granola then adding fresh fruit or berry compote, and yogurt and a drizzle of honey. This is one of my favorite breakfast bowls. They keep up to 4 days in the fridge. This is by far the best homemade granola recipe I have made. It’s so quick to make. In about 5 minutes you’ll have it in the oven.

How to Make Homemade Granola

To get started on this homemade granola recipe, gather these simple ingredients which you probably have in your pantry:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine oats, olive oil, honey, nuts & seeds, cinnamon, salt, vanilla, and nutmeg.
  3. Spread the mixture in an even layer on a baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 20-25 minutes, stirring halfway through.
  5. If you’re adding coconut flakes, sprinkle it on halfway through to get that lightly toasted perfection.
  6. Let cool completely before storing.

Granola can be a bit tricky – keep an eye on it to prevent overcooking. You want that golden-brown goodness, not a burnt disaster. Trust your instincts!

Adding Dried Fruits

Resist the urge to bake those dried fruits. Instead, fold in 1 cup of raisins, cranberries, or your favorite dried fruits after removing it from the heat. Baking them directly can result in chewy rather than delightfully juicy additions.

How Do I Store Homemade Granola?

Storing your granola is a breeze:

  1. Airtight Container: Store the granola in an airtight container to prevent exposure to air, which can make it lose its crispness.
  2. Cool, Dark Place: Keep the container in a cool, dark place, such as a pantry or cupboard. Avoid storing it in areas with direct sunlight or heat.
  3. Refrigeration or Freezing (Optional): While not necessary, you can extend the shelf life of granola by storing it in the refrigerator or freezer. Make sure to use a freezer-safe container or a resealable plastic bag.
  4. Avoid Moisture: Moisture can cause granola to become soggy. Ensure that the container is completely dry before storing and avoid exposing it to high humidity.
